In seven minutes, it will be my 30th birthday

And I’m going to publish this scatterthought exactly when the clock strikes 12.

Six minutes…

I spent the evening baking my mom’s almond roca bars to take to work, with the help and advice of my roommate and three friends who came over to hang out and hand candy to trick-or-treating kids.

Five minutes…

We got about 40 kids, which isn’t very many. So there’s a lot of candy left over. I’m writing that down here so that next year we can look back and remember how much candy to get, but the reality is that I won’t remember to check the archive.

Four minutes…

Funny thing is, Halloween always catches me by surprise. I don’t know why…I guess I’m always just really busy in October, so even though I know it’s coming I don’t think about it until the last minute. And then I never have a decent costume for the party or…

Three minutes…

…or parties that I usually end up going to. It’s silly, I know. And has partially to do with the fact that I don’t really like dressing up in costumes.

Two minutes…whoa, that was a quick one.

The truth is that I was born sometime around 5:30am, by my recollection, so I’m not really 30 until that moment hits. But we celebrate the day, not the minute. So when the clock turns over and reveals November 1, 2007, I’ll be 30.

One minute till that happens.

Also in the next few seconds, my friend Amy will turn 28. I love her dearly, and wish her a happy birthday…she’s a couple years behind me, but lives a healther lifestyle so it all evens out.

And here we go…

Any second now…

Happy birthday to me.

Russ
