I was having a good day.
Then, on my way home from work, I had to stop at an abandoned building to take photos of it for a potential project. It was raining and dark, and I didn’t realize that the parking lot was a mix of water-logged pavement and hard lumps of ice. So I was quite surprised when I suddenly lost control of my car while pulling into a parking space and slid into the vehicle I was trying to park next to, scraping their bumper and my own.
The damage is minimal, and luckily I got the worst of it. Just a few scrapes and a slight outward bulge to my bumper. This would actually qualify as the first vehicle damage I’ve ever had while driving, though I have had my share of close calls.
Anyway, since I had my camera I took some photos of both the other car and my own. Then I wrote a note on a business card, wrapped it in a small plastic bag, and left it on the windshield. Yeah, I could have just left and no one would be the wiser, but how does that improve society? I’d be pretty annoyed if someone did that to me, so I’d never do it to someone else.
What’s really annoying is that I didn’t need to park next to the car…the lot was nearly empty since the building isn’t being used. It was just the logical spot at the end of my turn when I pulled into the lot from the street.
Ah well, such is life. I’ll get it fixed because it will annoy me to see the bumper all of the time, but I’ll probably wait until the spring, just in case the winter causes any more problems.
