The Final Counter

From 5:39pm on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, to 5:23pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, my faithful hit counter on TheCounter.com has tracked a total of 76,673 visits to rpwong.com and its successor, Scatterthought.com.

That’s pretty cool.

I never imagined that this site would become one of the most popular destinations on the Internet, and those stats back up Scatterthought’s status as “just another Web site”. Some sites get well over 75,000 hits in a minute (think Ebay and Google). I am, as they say, just happy to be here.

If I sound wistful, that’s because I’m shutting down my account on TheCounter.com. Well, not so much shutting it down as no longer paying fees for its use. The reason for this is that my domain provider, HostingPlex.com, has a built-in hit counter that’s just as good, if not better, so there’s really no point paying US$21.95 to duplicate a service.

Is there?

No, I don’t think there is. If I kept it, it’d be purely for sentimental reasons–and yes, while I am a sentimental fool, I do have my limits.

Anyway, the full stats from TheCounter.com will still be available for a few more days. You can check ’em out here.
