My name is Russell Patrick Wong. As far as I know, I’m the only person in the world with this name, but Google just two of the three parts and you’re in for a lot of search results.
I’m a communications professional, which simply means that people pay me to write and do other communications-related things.
I’m an amateur everything else, and the roles I’m most closely associated with are entertainer, musician, organizer, volunteer, and community builder. I could probably find ways to get paid for some of these things and reach “professional” status, but then they’d be work. Sometimes, it’s better to do things just because you enjoy them.
Perhaps the best way to describe me is as a greaseman, because my most notable skill is seeing what needs to be done and making it happen. People tell me what they need, and I figure out how to get us there. I don’t always wait for them to tell me, because by then it’ll sometimes be too late to help. But I’m also pretty good at figuring out when people don’t want/need help. That’s the tricky part.
If I could, I’d be the host of a late-night talk show. Think about it: writer, entertainer, and event organizer all rolled into one, with celebrity status that I could use to further good causes. Yep, that’s the dream job.
I’m a thinker and, for the most part, a doer. Again, doesn’t mean I’m any good at it. I am also, at times, extremely lazy—but no one believes me when I tell them that.
And I’m an optimist. Except when I’m not. Figure on it being an 85/15 split. I’ve no real basis for saying that, but 80 feels too low, and 90 feels too high.
One more thing.
I try my best to do good things, simply because I can. I need no more reason than that. I might not be wealthy and I’ll probably never save the world, but I’m still pretty lucky to be who I am, and luckier still to have a good idea of who I’m supposed to be.
One of these days, I’ll figure out what I’m supposed to do, and how I’m going to do it.
Thanks for visiting!
